2024 China International Paper Innovation and Development Forum was successfully held in Wuhan, China
Creating New Quality Productive Forces by Innovation and Leading High-quality Development in A Green Way
On September 24, the 2024 China International Paper Innovation and Development Forum, jointly sponsored by China Pulp and Paper Research Institute (hereinafter referred to as “CNPPRI”), China Technical Association of Paper Industry and China Paper Association, and specially supported by Nalco (China) Environmental Protection Technology Service Co., Ltd., was successfully held in Wuhan International Convention Center. The Development Forum was organized by China Pulp and Paper Magazines Publisher, Shashi Light Ind. Machinery Co., Ltd., Chevron Corporation, and was supported by the Recycled Fiber Utilization Technical Committee of China Technical Association of Paper Industry(CTAPI), the Paper-based Green Packaging Professional Committee of China Technical Association of Paper Industry, and the Carbon Peaking and Carbon Neutrality Strategic Development Center of Paper Industry.
With the theme of “Creating New Quality Productive Forces by Innovation and Leading High-quality Development in A Green Way”, this session of Development Forum will explore and deepen the fields of “innovation, green, intelligent manufacturing, market and sharing”, and invited leaders of departments concerned, well-known experts and scholars at home and abroad, entrepreneurs and so on. Leaders and guests are able to exchange in hot topics such as new quality productive forces, effective transformation of innovation achievements, raw material supply and market analysis, green intelligent manufacturing, energy saving, emission reduction and quality and efficiency enhancement, etc. They are going to explore the new stage of China’s high-quality development path in paper industry.

No.1 Opening Ceremony: Jointly Blueprinting for Green and Low-carbon Development in Paper Industry
Cao Baoping, Deputy General Manager of CNPPRI. and Deputy Secretary General of China National Hygiene Products Industry Association (CNHPIA), presided over the opening ceremony. In her opening speech, the president Sun Bo said that the paper industry, which continues to promote Chinese path to modernization, is undergoing a new round of change and upgrading. The green development has become the theme of sustainable development of paper industry, and scientific and technological innovation has become the main driving force to promote the high-quality development. Paper industry should pay more attention to the transformation of the concept and the innovation of the mode. We ought to provide new ideas and programs for the high-quality development of paper industry in China and create a better future.

No.2 Keynote Report: Industrial Transformation and Upgrading Driven by New Quality Productive Forces
The development of new quality productive forces is an inherent requirement and a pivotal focus to promote high-quality development. Intelligent manufacturing and green innovation are becoming new engines to drive the vigorous development of the modern system in paper industry. The keynote report was presided by Tian Chao, General Manager of CNPPRI. Zeng Jianping, Deputy Secretary General of National Manufacturing Power Construction Strategy Advisory Committee, and Gu Alun, Associate Researcher of Institute of Energy, Environment and Economy, Tsinghua University, respectively made speeches entitled Speed Up Manufacturing Industrial Intelligent and Digital Transformation and New Situation and Characteristics of Carbon Neutrality and New Quality Productive Forces. Experts provided an in-depth analysis and interpretation of hot issues in the manufacturing industry, the transformation and upgrading of paper industry, new quality productive forces practices, green, low-carbon and sustainable development. They also formulated new methods and ideas for paper industry to cope with future challenges and open up a broader development prospect.

Liu Zhenhua, Publisher Director of China Pulp and Paper Magazines Publisher and Secretary General of Paper-based Green Packaging Materials and Products Professional Committee of CTAPI, released The Competitiveness Report of China’s Paper Industry in 2024. The report has an in-depth multidimensional analysis of paper industry, with a total of 6 chapters. On the basis of retaining the comprehensive analysis of the paper industry competitiveness, paper enterprise innovation index, paper listed companies ESG index, The Competitiveness Report of China’s Paper Industry in 2024 newly added three chapters: Innovation index of paper equipment enterprises, competitiveness analysis of pulp industry and innovation competitiveness analysis of paper science and technology. With detailed and abundant contents, accurate and authoritative data, and intuitive and vivid graphs, the report showed the latest and development trends trends of paper industry, and provided for paper industry valuable reference of insight, strategic planning and innovative decision-making.

The resilience and innovation level of paper industry chain and supply chain is a key element to drive the entire industry towards high-quality development and a sustainable future. Jin Fuming, Vice President of China Technical Association of Paper Industry; Chief Expert of China Light Industry Internationl Engineering Co., Ltd.; and China Design Master of Engineering Investigation. Zhang Xiaolei, chief engineer of Shashi Light Ind. Machinery Co., Ltd., made a report entitled Technological Innovation Leading the Development of Intelligent Coating Equipment. Han Jiangwen, Vice President of Ecolab(China)Investment Co.,Ltd. And General Manager of Papermaking and Heavy Industry Group, Nalco (China) Environmental Protection Technology Service Co., Ltd., shared From Innovation to Sustainability: Nalco Water Total Solutions Help the Green Transformation of the Papermaking Industry. Jin Xiaochun, General Manager of Hubei Jinzhuang Technology Renewable Resources Co., Ltd. gave a speech of Thinking about the Existence and Innovative Development of Packaging Paper Producing Enterprises. Representatives discussed the innovation path and sustainable development direction in papermaking and its upstream and downstream industries. Innovative strategies proposed by experts in these areas will jointly construct the core competitiveness of the paper industry, promote the efficient use and recycling of resources, ensure the steady improvement of product quality, and promote the industry to a more efficient, environmental-friendly and sustainable direction.

The practical experience, innovative exploration and application of enterprise green intelligent manufacturing have become a strong support for the sustainable development of the paper industry. The host of Green and Intelligent Manufacturing part was Li Jiehui, the General Manager of Chaint Corporation. Dun Zhiqiang, Vice President & Deputy Secretary General of Hubei Province Paper Industry Society and Vice President of Hubei Province Paper Association shared General Situation of Development of Hubei Papermaking Industry and Green and Low-carbon Practice. Zhang Quan, Senior Engineer of CNPPRI gave a speech Establishing Standard Leading the Green and Low Carbon Development of Paper Industry; Zi Shougang, Vice President of Chevron of Greater China made the report entitled Low Energy Consumption Lubricant Strategy for the Paper Industry; Zhu Weiyan, General Manager of Stora Enso (Guangxi) Pulp & Paper Co., Ltd. gave a report in the topic of Exploration and Development of Stora Enso in the Field of Biomass Materials and Renewable Packaging Materials; and Chief Digital Officer Wang Zhenhua from Shanying Paper (Suzhou) Co., Ltd., made a report of Digital Way of the Intelligent Manufacturing of Shanying. Combined with enterprise products, industry standards and green and intelligent practice, they provided a reference development model for paper industry colleagues.

With the continuous fluctuations of the global economy and the diversified trend of consumer demand, an accurate grasp of the paper industry market dynamics is of great value for the precise holding of the future development direction and investment opportunities of paper enterprises. From Chinese paper industry market’s present situation, investment opportunities and risks, global pulp and paper market insight and other aspects, guests analysed with grand perspective of the domestic and international markets as a cutting point. They proposed strategic guidance for the forward-looking arrangement of paper enterprises.
