Abstract:Application of enzymes in the pulp and paper industry has grown rapidly since the mid-1980s. Refining or beating of chemical pulp is one of the most important operations when preparing papermaking fibers for papers or paperboards production. Effect of enzyme pre-treatment before refining and the type of refiner on refining energy consumption of bleached softwood kraft pulp (NBKP) and bleached hardwood kraft pulp (LBKP) was analyzed in this work. Results revealed that the specific refining energy consumption of LBKP and NBKP with using cylindrical refiner was lower than that of using disc-type refiners. There was great difference of refining energy consumption with or without enzyme pre-treatment when cylindrical refiner was used to treat commercial NBKP. |
