Abstract:In this study, a high performance liquid chromatography-photo-diode array(HPLC-PDA) method was develpoed for the simultaneous determination of 10 colorants in cigarette tipping paper, including Allura Red, Amaranth, Carmosine, Carmine, Erythrosin, Quinoline Yellow, Indigotine, Brilliant Blue, Tartrazine, and Sunset Yellow. Water-soluble synthetic colorants were extracted from 10 kinds of tobacco paper with the aid of microwave with methanol/acetonitrile/water as solvent. The extraction effect of solvent, microwave power, temperature and time was investigated by single factor and orthogonal experiment. The results showed that the best extraction conditions were that volume ratio of methanol/acetonitrile/water=1∶1∶3, microwave power of 300 W, extraction time for 3 min with solid-liquid ratio of 1∶100. The target compounds were well separated within 15 min and could reach baseline separation with a good linear relationship in the concentration range of 0.5~20.0 μg/mL. The correlation coefficient were all greater than 0.999, the recoveries were 92.6%~100.3%, and the relative standard deviation (n = 5) was 0.5%~6.7%. The limit of detection was 0.95~3.21 μg/g and the limit of quantitative was 3.16~10.72 μg/g. This method could quickly analyze the comtent of 10 water-soluble synthetic colorants in cigarette tipping paper at the same time, and provide technical support for the safety evaluation of cigarette exploding.
