Abstract:A new classification scheme for cellulose electrolytic capacitor paper (ECP) was provided in this paper. The necessity of adding non-polar simulants to the absorption performance evaluation model was proposed and validated. The intrinsic connection between the affinity of paper for electrolyte and the equivalent series resistance (ESR) of the finished electrolytic capacitor was discussed. The reasons why electrolytic paper with large porosity needed to be concerned with short-circuit prevention performance, and the feasibility of using air permeability index to reflect the short circuit resistance of low density paper were analyzed. Incorporating the findings of this paper into the proposed revision of IEC 60554-3-4:1979, the classification system of electrolytic paper will be reconstructed; the assessment of water absorption performance will be extended to liquid absorption performance; the air permeability index for thin paper with low density will be introduced; the assessment of iron microparticles and tensile strength, and assess breakdown strength for medium and high voltage electrolytic paper will be added.
