Abstract:In order to study the effects of cigarette paper permeability and basis weight on the combustion cone maximum temperature and the amount of harmful components in mainstream smoke of conventional and slim cigarettes， prediction models were developed using partial least squares（PLS） regression analysis.The results showed that with the increase of cigarette paper permeability， the combustion cone maximum temperature， the amounts of CO， HCN， NH3 releasing， the cigarette hazard index and comprehensive sensory qualities of conventional and slim cigarettes decreased. With the increase of basis weight of cigarette paper， the combustion cone maximum temperature and the amounts of CO rose， while the amount of NH3，cigarette hazard index and comprehensive sensory quality of both cigarettes decreased. The influences of permeability and basis weight of cigarette paper on phenol， HCN releasing， aroma， smoke and taste characteristics of conventional and slim cigarettes showed a certain difference．
