Abstract:In this paper, oxidized starch was prepared by adding nanocrystalline cellulose ( NCC ) and NaClO into 30% starch emulsion at 50 ℃,and the influence of NCC dosage on starch oxidation process was analyzed. The oxidized starche was characterized by infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR), scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and x-ray diffraction(XRD). Then the oxidized starche was used as internal and surface sizing agents in papermaking process. The results showed that the addition of NCC could effectively improve the oxidation degree of corn starch. The carboxyl content of oxidized starch reached 1.10% with NCC dosage of 0.5 wt%. The oxidized starch could improve the paper properties when the NCC oxidized starch surface sizing amount was 2 g/m2, the surface sized paper contact angle reached 82.5°, and the paper strength properties were improved obviously using the NCC oxidized starch as internal sizing agent with the dosage of 0.75 wt%.
