Abstract:In this paper, the influence of PET fibers’cross-sectional shape on structure and properties of filter paper was extensively studied by preparing handsheets using cellulose fibers and PET fibers with different cross-sectional shapes. The result showed that compared with the same amount of the round fiber, the triangular, trilobal, cruciform and “丰” fibers had no significant effect on the filtration efficiency of the filter paper. However, the dust holding capacity of the paper increased to some extent. When the PET fibers content was 40%, the dust holding capacity of filter paper containing triangular, trilobal, cruciform and “丰” fibers increased by 8.2 g/m2, 11.7 g/m2, 9.9 g/m2 and 13.8 g/m2 respectively. Furthermore, the trilobal and “丰” fibers had a greater impact on the thickness and dust holding capacity of the papers. The “丰” fiber had more significant influence on the pore size and air permeability of the papers than the triangular, trilobal and cruciform fibers.
