Abstract:The effect of particle size and morphology of microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) on its fluidity is very important. The ball milling can change the morphology and particle size,so in this paper, the effects of dry milling on the particle size, morphology, fluidity, crystallinity and thermal stability of MCC were analyzed in detail. The results showed that ball milling reduced the particle size of MCC, but too long milling time, the secondary particles formed between MCC resulted in the increase of particle size and the decrease of crystallinity. The thermal stability analysis showed that as the milling time increasing, the complete degradation temperature of MCC decreased and the thermal stability decreased. Meanwhile, the morphology of MCC changed from a short rod to a spherical shape, and the determination results of the angle of repose indicated that the fluidity became better. Finally, MCC with different morphology and fluidity can meet different application requirements.
