Abstract:The surface morphology, specific surface area, crystalline properties and papermaking properties of lab-made PET fibrid and commercially available PET pulp were studied using scanning electron microscopy(SEM), FQA, BET surface analyzer and X-ray diffraction(XRD). The experimental results showed that compared with the commercially available PET pulp, PET fibrids were ribbon, soft, lightweight and thinner, with fiber morphology and larger specific surface area. The crystallinity of the fibrid was 36.10%, and the dispersity of fibrid suspension reached 97%, which was helpful to improve the formation and mechanical strength of PET sheets. At the same ratio of raw materials, the tensile index, tear index and elongation of the paper prepared with PET fibrid and PET chopped fiber improved by 6.3%, 11.2% and 38.8%, respectively compared with the paper prepared with commercial PET pulp and chopped fiber.
