Abstract:In this paper, the influence of PET fiber diameter on structure and filtration performance of filter paper was extensively studied by preparing handsheets using plant fiber and PET fibers with different diameters. The result showed that the thickness, pore size and air permeability of the filter paper decreased, while filtration efficiency and resistance increased with decreasing of the diameter of PET fiber. The magnitude of these changes was different. The performance changed slowly when PET fiber diameter decreased from 17 μm to 5 μm, but the performance significantly changed when fiber diameter reduced from 5 μm to 2 μm. It showed that the new PET fiber material with diameter of 2 μm could have a strong application potential in filter paper．
