Abstract:Cellulose nanocrystals (CNC) is a kind of promising biological polymer prepared from natural high molecular cellulose material. Cholesteric liquid crystal phase can be formed, thanks to CNC colloidal suspension has self-assembly properties then CNC iridescent films with good optical performance can be prepared by the method of ultrasound with adding electrolyte. In this review, the preparation methods of CNC, the principle of forming CNC iridescent films,the way of preparation of the films and its characterization methods were introduced, the application restrictions and development trend of CNC iridescent films were put forward based on the works of pioneer contributors.
