Abstract:National innovation and development strategy has put forward new requirements for universities to cultivate new engineering talents. Taking the China International College Students’ Innovation Competition as a starting point, this paper conducted an in-depth analysis of the background, significance, necessity and feasibility of integration of competition and teaching in education. It proposed practical measures for light industry majors to implement such integration: forming interdisciplinary teaching teams and innovating the structure of professor teams to provide intellectual support; establishing student-centered project-based teaching methods to stimulate students’ initiative in learning; building a full-chain educational pathway encompassing “project identification, topic selection, and project cultivation” to foster innovative and applied talents through competition-integrated teaching practice. Finally, the paper summarized the significant role of integration of competition and teaching in education in enhancing talent development quality by improving knowledge transmission, training thinking skills, and strengthening competencies.
