| Abstract:In this study, slag wool was subjected to surface graft modification using silane coupling agent KH550 and cellulose fibers, and corrugated base paper with high strength was prepared via mixing the modified slag wool and hardwood pulp. The results showed that the interfacial interaction between slag wool and hardwood pulp fibers was remarkably improved by KH550 through chemical bonding, and the dispersion stability of slag wool in aqueous phase was effectively enhanced. Compared with unmodified slag wool, the bonding force between KH550/cellulose fiber graft-modified slag wool and hardwood pulp fibers was greatly strengthened, and the ring crush and tensile performances of the prepared corrugated base paper were significantly elevated. The optimum surface graft modification effect on slag wool was achieved when the volume fraction of KH550 was 5% and the mass fraction of cellulose fibers was 15%. Corrugated base paper with a basis weight of 120 g/m² was prepared at a mass ratio of modified slag wool to hardwood pulp of 15∶85, of which the ring crush index reached 4.8 N·m/g and breaking length was 3.5 km, in comparison with the paper made from pure hardwood pulp, which were increased by 29.7% and 34.6%, respectively. |
