Study on Multi-dimensional Morphological Variation of Parenchyma Cells in Dendrocalamus Membranaceus

Abstract:In this study, the morphological parameters of parenchyma cells in Dendrocalamus membranaceus were measured across multi-dimensions, and the patterns of effects of each dimension on these morphotogical parameters were analyzed. The results indicated that parenchyma cells in Dendrocalamus membranaceus were distributed around the vascular bundles, characterized by thin walls, large lumens, and diverse morphologies. From temporal perspective, bamboo age significantly influenced the morphological parameters (except for width) of parenchyma cells in Dendrocalamus membranaceus, with the F value for wall thickness reaching as high as 65.45. From spatial perspective, axial height had an extremely significant effect (P<0.01) on all morphological parameters of parenchyma cells in Dendrocalamus membranaceus. The radial position was a key factor affecting wall thickness and lumen diameter, showing an increase from 1.31 and 19.87 μm at the outer layer (bamboo green) to 1.92 and 37.65 μm at the inner layer (bamboo yellow), respectively, and the wall-to-lumen ratio was highest at the outer layer (0.14) and lowest at the inner layer (0.11). There were morphological differences in the parenchyma cells of Dendrocalamus membranaceus at different internode regions. Specifically, parenchyma cells near the node in the lower internodes exhibited greater length, width, wall thickness, and lumen diameter than those near the node in the upper internodes.
