Abstract:To optimize the aerosol release behavior of heated cigarettes, this study focused on slurry-type reconstituted tobacco sheets and systematically investigated the effects of their physical properties (density and dynamic friction coefficient) and formulation parameters (glycerin addition amount and filler type) on the aerosol collected matter (ACM), nicotine, and glycerol releases and their puff-by-puff releases behavior. The results showed that the aerosol releases followed a trend of increasing first and then decreasing with increasing density, with a peak at 0.692 g/cm³. Both an increase in dynamic friction coefficient and glycerol application amount were beneficial to enhancing the total aerosol release. Among the filler types, talcum powder performed the best, significantly promoting aerosol release, while calcium carbonate had an inhibitory effect. The puff-by-puff release curves of each cigarette exhibited a trend of first increasing and then decreasing, with ACM released peak earlier than nicotine and glycerol. Moderate density (0.692 g/cm³), higher glycerol addition amount (18%), and talcum powder filler contributed to improving puff-by-puff release stability. In addition, two key process parameters in sheet processing, namely impression depth and cutting width, were optimized based on aerosol release behavior. With a impression depth of 325 µm and cutting width of 129 mm, the prepared heated cigarette exhibited better comprehensive performance.
