| Abstract:This study established a method for the simultaneous determination of 15 sweeteners using high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with an evaporative light scattering detector (HPLC-ELSD). Instrument conditions and extraction methods were optimized, and the method was applied to analyze sweetened tipping papers from 29 types of cigarettes. The results showed a C18 column was used with a mobile phase consisting of 0.1% (v/v) formic acid (pH value was 4.0) -methanol under gradient elution at a flow rate of 1.0 mL/min and a column temperature of 35 ℃. Samples were extracted by ultrasonication with 50% methanol (v/v). Under these optimized conditions, the 15 sweeteners exhibited excellent Log-Log linearity within the mass concentration of 40~400 μg/mL, with correlation coefficients all greater than 0.998 0. Recovery rates ranged from 87% to 114%, and relative standard deviations (RSD) were all below 3.04%. Analysis of 29 tipping paper samples revealed that 19 samples contained detectable levels of sweeteners, predominantly synthetic sweeteners. |
