Abstract:To accurately evaluate the softness of baby diapers and explore the subjective-objective correlation between manual assessment and instrumental testing, a softness testing method for baby diapers based on the ring method was proposed. The testing principle and basic requirements of the apparatus for characterizing the softness of baby diapers were analyzed. A self-designed testing device for baby diapers softness was used to obtain typical force value load-displacement curve. Characteristic parameters extracted from the curves were employed to characterize softness, and the feasibility and reliability of the testing method were discussed. Meanwhile, a subjective evaluation experiment on the softness of baby diapers was carried out. The results showed that the ring method could rapidly and quantitatively characterize the softness of baby diapers, with all coefficients of variation less than 5.0, indicating good stability, and it had a certain ability to distinguish baby diapers with different softness levels. The Pearson correlation coefficient R of sofntness measure by two methods was 0.88, with a significant correlation. The cluster analysis results of the two methods were in good agreement, which verified the effectiveness of this method for testing the softness of baby diapers.
