| Abstract:The crease stiffness is a key performance indicator that determines the forming quality, opening and closing feel, and durability of packaging boxes. To investigate the influencing factors, this study systematically tested the physical properties of five types of cigarette trademark pack base papers and their substrates (white cardboard and polyethylene terephthalate (PET) film). By preparing specimens with different indentation parameters, the relationship between indentation characteristics and crease stiffness was analyzed. The results showed that crease stiffness exhibited a significant negative correlation with indentation depth (R2 ≥ 0.813); crease stiffness increased with indentation width, which was attributed to a reduction in cross-sectional curvature and a more dispersed stress distribution. Laminating with PET film significantly enhanced stiffness, with the effect being more pronounced for PET films with a higher elastic modulus. The stiffness of white cardboard showed a strong positive correlation with its density (R2 ≥ 0.647), but this correlation weakens significantly after laminating with PET film. Therefore, effective control over the crease stiffness of cigarette trademark pack base paper could be achieved by adjusting indentation depth, selecting PET films with a high elastic modulus, and regulating the compactness of the substrate. |
