| Abstract:The paper used in Ming Dynasty manuscripts was of high quality, often made from white cotton paper, but so far there has been no analysis of the raw material composition and production techniques based on physical samples of white cotton paper. This study used the Ming Dynasty manuscript Tai Yi Yang Dun from “Li Shengduo Collection” in Peking University Library as the research sample, and conducted comprehensive analysis using various scientific detection methods such as optical microscopy analysis, fiber staining analysis, scanning electron microscopy combined with energy dispersive spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction analysis, micro X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy, and attenuated total reflection Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The results indicated that the paper was made entirely from pure paper mulberry bark, and the main material fillers were muscovite and quartz. The paper was white, thick, and sturdy, exhibiting the typical characteristics of white cotton paper. |
