| Abstract:This study successfully prepared a thiol/sulfonic acid dual-functionalized modified cellulose adsorbent (L-TDAC) for the efficient removal of Cr(Ⅵ) from waste water. Taurine and L-cysteine were grafted onto the cellulose backbone via periodate oxidation followed by Schiff base reactions. Material characterization confirmed the successful introduction of sulfonic acid and thiol groups. Under conditions of pH value was 3.0, adsorbent dosage was 50 mg, initial Cr(Ⅵ) concentration was 100 mg/L, L-TDAC exhibited a maximum Cr(Ⅵ) adsorption capacity of 96.33 mg/g. The adsorption process followed pseudo-second-order kinetics and the Langmuir isotherm model, indicating monolayer chemisorption. Mechanistic analysis revealed a synergistic “adsorption-reduction-immobilization”process the thiol groups reduced the adsorbed Cr(Ⅵ) to Cr(Ⅲ) in situ, and the generated Cr(Ⅲ) was subsequently complexed and fixed by functional groups such as sulfonic acid. The material demonstrated good regenerability, maintaining a removal efficiency above 80% after 6 adsorption-desorption cycles, highlighting its potential as a green adsorbent for treating chromium-containing wastewater. |
