Abstract:This paper systematically introduced the separating methods of lignocellulosic biomass components and reviewed the research progress on the high-value utilization of the three major components, such as converting lignin into lignin-based carbon materials and phenolic resins, converting hemicellulose into furfural and oligomeric xylan, and converting cellulose into 5-hydroxymethylfurfural, micro-/nano-cellulose, and other high value-added products and functional materials. In addition, in response to the issues of unclear production costs and difficult quantification of environmental impact indicators during the value-added conversion of lignocellulosic biomass, combing with techno-economic analysis (TEA) and life cycle assessment (LCA), the economic and environmental impacts of current biomass refining research were summarized. Finally, the development prospects and potential challenges of lignocellulosic biomass components separation and high-value utilization in the future were discussed.
