| Abstract:With the growth of global academic exchange in an internationalized context, “Plant Polysaccharide: Chemistry and Materials”, as one of the core research directions in biomass science and engineering, has consistently received considerable focus in international scientific research. In this paper, the necessity of English-medium instruction (EMI) in connecting with international research trends and cultivating outstanding talent with interdisciplinary academic communication skills was systematically discussed by taking an EMI course “Plant Polysaccharides: Chemistry and Materials” as a specific case study based on specialized characteristics of polysaccharides, e.g., complex structures, broad interdisciplinary scope, and rapidly evolving research frontiers. Meanwhile, practical challenges in current EMI courses, including disparities in students’ English proficiency, insufficient adaptation of specialised teaching resources, and a disconnect between teaching methods and disciplinary features, were thoroughly analysed. Accordingly, some strategies of course reform were proposed from three dimensions, including innovating teaching models, improving assessment systems, and enhancing faculty capabilities. The ultimate purpose was to provide practical references for cultivating versatile professionals equipped with a global perspective, solid expertise, and high-level English application skills. |
