Abstract:To investigate the quality differences among reconstituted tobacco sheets at home and abroad and optimize their production processes, this study conducted quantitative analyses on the key chemical components (lignocellulose, total sugars, total alkaloids, etc.), hot water-soluble content, and ash content of 8 different brands from domestic and foreign manufacturers. Integrated with microscopic morphological observations and elemental distribution analysis, a comprehensive assessment for reconstituted tobacco sheet quality was performed. The results indicated significant variations in chemical compositions among the tested samples: specifically, the lignocellulose content of imported reconstituted tobacco sheets ranged from 39.43% to 43.63%, lower than that of domestic brands (44.08%~49.47%). Similarly, their contents of total sugars (8.26%~8.48%), total alkaloids (0.88%~0.96%), and hot water-soluble substances (36.76%~37.48%) were also lower compared to domestic counterparts, while the ash content (17.27%~17.55%) was higher than that of domestic brands (13.48%~14.91%). Furthermore, notable differences were observed in the humectants used: imported reconstituted tobacco sheets adopted glycerol as the humectant, whereas domestic products selected propylene glycol. Microstructural analysis revealed that imported reconstituted tobacco sheets featured loose and porous fibers, with uniformly dispersed calcium carbonate and functional porous additives incorporated.
