Abstract:A systematic study was conducted on the fundamental properties of fine screen rejects from three waste paper pulping processes: ONP, OCC and MOW. The research focused on analyzing the critical factors hindering fine screen rejects recycling, including the content, distribution, and specific chemical composition of stickies. The results revealed that the useful fiber content in fine screen rejects was relatively high, with values of 81.2%, 93.5%, and 78.8% for MOW, ONP, and OCC, respectively. Notably, the proportion of long fibers was significant, but these fibers were entangled and encapsulated by large stickies. The stickies content in OCC-fine screen rejects reached 674 100 mm²/kg, significantly exceeding that in ONP-fine screen rejects (24 623 mm²/kg) and MOW-fine screen rejects (146 315 mm²/kg). The chemical composition of stickies in fine screen rejects primarily consisted of hydrocarbons, lipids, and aromatic compounds, with stickies from ONP and MOW exhibiting certain similarities in composition.
