Abstract:In this study, air permeability, combustion additives content, and combustion additives type were selected as the key parameters of cigarette paper. A comparative analysis was conducted on the effects of these different key parameters on the thermal weight loss behavior of cigarette paper, followed by an evaluation of the mainstream smoke delivery of cigarettes manufactured using such paper. The results showed that:①The thermal weight loss of cigarette papers with different air permeability levels showed no significant differences. However, higher air permeability could reduce the mainstream smoke delivery. When the air permeability of cigarette paper increased from 19.3 CU to 180.2 CU,the release levels in mainstream smoke delivery decreased by 2.5 mg/cig. for tar,0.16 mg/cig. for nicotine and 2.8 mg/cig. for CO. ②Increasing the combustion additives content in cigarette paper induced the thermal weight loss at lower temperatures, which contributed to the reduction of mainstream smoke delivery. When the combustion additives content increased from 0.10% to 2.59%,the release levels in mainstream smoke delivery could be decreased significantly: 1.60 mg/cig. for tar,0.19 mg/cig. for nicotine and 1.68 mg/cig. for CO. However, when the combustion additives content exceeded 2.59%, smoke delivery release had a continuous increase. ③When the combustion additives content was the same, compared with the cigarette paper with sodium citrate, cigarette paper with potassium citrate losed weight at the lower temperature, which was more conducive to reducing the smoke delivery.
