| Abstract:This study employed pressurized atomized borax for the deacidification treatment of documents to achieve long-lasting preservation of paper-based documents. Initially, borax was transformed into micron-sized droplets through the pressurized atomization method, which were then applied as a deacidifying agent for paper deacidification. The study primarily focused on investigating the influence patterns of deacidification time, borax concentration, and applied air pressure on the deacidification effectiveness of paper. The results showed that under the conditions of a deacidification time of 48 minutes, a borax mass concentration of 10 g/L, and an applied air pressure of 0.75 kg/cm², the pH value of the treated paper increased from 3.84 to 7.61. Moreover, the breaking length and tear index of the paper rose from the original values of 1.26 km and 2.10 mN·m²/g to 1.46 km and 2.65 mN·m²/g, respectively. Additionally, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) observations revealed that the surface of the paper fibers became smoother after deacidification treatment. Since the droplets can remain suspended in the air for an extended period, this method also holds certain application prospects for large-scale deacidification of paper. |
