| Abstract:This study investigated the kraft pulping and elemental chlorine-free (ECF) bleaching of seven imported hardwoods (Vietnamese acacia, Australian eucalyptus nitens, Australian blue eucalyptus, Chilean eucalyptus nitens, Chilean blue eucalyptus, Uruguayan Dunn eucalyptus, and Thai red eucalyptus), systematically evaluating the pulping and bleaching performances of these hardwoods. The results showed that blue eucalyptus performed exceptionally well in terms of pulping yield (over 55%) and oxygen bleaching efficiency (over 45%). Eucalyptus nitens bleached pulp had longer fiber length (approximately 0.94 mm) and finer fiber diameter (approximately 0.063 mg/m), resulting in prepared paper with good tensile index, exceeding 99.0 N·m/g. Therefore, both blue eucalyptus and eucalyptus nitens were ideal raw materials for bleached kraft pulping. The pulping performance of Uruguayan Dunn eucalyptus and Thai red eucalyptus was poor, and process adjustments were needed to reduce costs and improve efficiency. |
