| Abstract:The main chemical composition and key characteristics of lignocelluloses for 5 kinds of wild hardwood species in Jilin Province were characterized using techniques including the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) method, thioacidolysis, high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), and ion chromatography (IC), etc. Based on the results, the potential applications of these plant fibers in papermaking and other fields were disscussed and compared. The results showed that the cellulose content of the 5 kinds of wood types was similar, while the hemicellulose and lignin contents ranged from 16.68% to 24.88% and 17.82% to 26.15%, respectively. The average degree of polymerization (DP) of the isolated cellulose was 1 021~1 708, and the weight-average molecular weight (Mw) of hemicellulose was 45.83~73.78 kDa. Hemicellulose primarily consisted of various types of xylans (with glucans being secondary). Acid-insoluble lignin was dominating in the lignin of 5 kinds of hardwood with the S/G ratio ranged from 0.21 to 3.92. Comprehensive analysis indicates that Crataegus pinnatifida (mountain hawthorn) is the most suitable raw material among the 5 kinds of hardwoods in the pulping and papermaking field, while Sorbus pohuashanensis (Sorbus species) is the most suitable one applied in the lignocellulose-based biorefinery field. |
