Abstract:A crushing accident occurred during the dynamic balance test of a newly purchased drying cylinder in a paper mill. In this study, systematic analysis of the accident drying cylinder was conducted using methods such as macroscopic inspection, chemical analysis, hardness testing, mechanical performance testing, metallographic structure analysis, fracture morphology analysis, and theoretical calculation. The research showed that during the dynamic balance test of the drying cylinder, the rotating speed of the testing machine significantly exceeded the speed specified in the drawing, and the stress generated in the cylinder body under the action of centrifugal force exceeded the tensile strength of the material, which caused breaking of the cylinder body. The research also revealed the deficiencies in the current relevant national standards regarding the requirements for the chemical composition and metallographic structure of gray cast iron, and put forward targeted modification suggestions.
