| Abstract:Proton exchange membrane fuel cells(PEMFCs) have attracted much attention due to their advantages of high efficiency, low noise, and non-polluting property. However, there are still many problems that need to be solved urgently, such as the complex water management system, weak medium transport capability, short service lifetime, poor stability, and high catalyst cost. Optimizing the performance of the carbon paper based gas diffusion layer (GDL) has become the key to improve the efficiency and service life time of fuel cells. In this paper, recent research progress on carbon paper-based GDL was reviewed, covering new GDL preparation processes with laser perforation and patterning designs, carbon paper modification with graphene and nanofibers to enhance mechanical strength, electrical conductivity, void uniformity, and graded porous structures, and improvements in water management and mass transfer performance with Teflon hydrophobic agent, with the aim of providing a reference for the future development of PEMFCs. |
