Abstract:This study used reed as the raw material and systematically investigated the dissolution patterns of its chemical components during the NACO pulping process. The results showed that the optimal pulp performance was achieved under the following conditions: alkali dosage (calculated as Na2O) of 18%, sodium carbonate mass ration of 90%, cooking temperature of 140 ℃, holding time of 2 h, and initial oxygen pressure of 1.4 MPa. Under these conditions, the fine pulp yield was 44.9%, the brightness reached 31.5 %, and the Kappa value was 24.5. The paper exhibited excellent physical properties, with tensile index of 54.0 N·m/g, tear index of 4.48 mN·m²/g, burst index of 3.30 kPa·m²/g, and ring crush index of 6.53 N·m/g, all surpassing the performance of paper produced via the conventional oxy-alkali pulping process. The pulping mechanism of the NACO method could be summarized as follows: during the NACO pulping process, the interaction between the alkaline environment and oxygen promoted the generation of superoxide anion radicals (O2-·) and hydroxyl radicals (HO·), which worked synergistically to facilitate the removal of lignin.
