Abstract:Steam blasting technology was used to pretreat tobacco stems, and the microstructure and chemical composition of tobacco stems, as well as the physical properties of the reconstituted tobacco base sheets and the organoleptic quality of reconstituted tobacco sheets under different steam blasting pretreatment conditions were studied. The results showed that the maintained steam blasting pressure exerted considerable effects on the microstructure of tobacco stems and the physical properties of the reconstituted tobacco sheets. As the maintained steam blasting pressure rising, the microstructure of tobacco stems expanded, the void and gap spaces enlarged and increased. After beating, the beating degree of tobacco stem pulp increased, compared with untreated sample, the tensile index of the reconstituted tobacco base sheets could be increased by up to 1.65 times, the uniformity was increased by 60%, and the softness was increased by 22%, but it had a relatively small effect on bulk. When the maintained steam blasting pressure was 0.6 MPa, the microstructural damage of the tobacco stem was not obvious, and the water-soluble total sugar content was increased by 11.6% compared with that of the raw material, which could significantly improve the organoleptic quality of the reconstituted tobacco sheets. Appropriate steam blasting treatment of tobacco stems could significantly improve the physical properties of the reconstituted tobacco base sheets and organoleptic quality of reconstituted tobacco sheets, and the maintained steam blasting pressure should be lower than 0.6 MPa in industrial application.
