| Abstract:This study employed the complex coacervation method to prepare vanilla essential oil microcapsules, using vanilla essential oil as the core material, chitosan as the wall material, and Span-80 as the emulsifier. The encapsulation efficiency, moisture content, and solubility of the microcapsules were measured, and their physicochemical properties were characterized. The sustained-release performance of the vanilla essential oil microcapsules was investigated, followed by an accelerated test to evaluate their weather resistance. Finally, the microcapsules were applied for fragrance enhancement on cigarette paper.The results showed that the chitosan could successfully encapsulate vanilla essential to prepare vanilla essential oil microcapsules, and the vanilla essential oil microcapsules had an average particle size of 482 nm, an encapsulation efficiency of 41.1%, a moisture content of 7.2%, and a solubility of 46.2%. The vanilla essential oil microcapsules exhibited good thermal stability, with a mass loss of only 4.2% after 13 days of storage, demonstrating effective sustained-release properties.Accelerated testing revealed that storage temperature significantly affected their weather resistance. When stored at lower temperatures (25 and 4 ℃) for 10 days, the mass loss remained below 30%. However, at 60 ℃, the mass loss reached a maximum of 36.2% after 10 days, indicating that vanilla essential oil microcapsules were unsuitable for storage in high-temperature environments. Sensory evaluation of cigarettes showed that adding vanilla microcapsules to cigarette paper improved the overall smoking experience compared to untreated cigarettes. At an addition amount of 2.0%, the microcapsules enhanced the aroma intensity, imparted a sweet fragrance, reduced irritation, and provided a more pleasant aftertaste, resulting in superior sensory performance. |
