Effects of Acetic Acid Pretreatment on Enzymatic Saccharification and Physicochemical Properties of Acacia

Abstract:The effects of pretreatment temperature, acetic acid dosage, and the number of revolutions of PFI refining on the enzymatic hydrolysis saccharification rate of Acacia were investigated through acetic acid pretreatment of wood chips, three-stage refining, and PFI refining in this study. Additionally, XRD, SEM and TG-IR were used to analyze the structure of Acacia before and after pretreatment. The results showed that acetic acid pretreatment could significantly increase the reducing sugar yield and solid content in the acetic acid extract of Acacia. When the acetic acid dosage was the same (e.g. HAC5), as the pretreatment temperature increased from 140 ℃ to 170 ℃, the solid content in the pretreatment extract increased from 4.4% to 16.5%, and the reducing sugar yield increased from 2.4% to 13.2%. When the pretreatment temperature was 170 ℃, as the acetic acid dosage increased from 0 to 9%, the solid content in the pretreatment solution increased from 16.1% to 16.8%, and the reducing sugar yield increased from 11.7% to 13.4%. In addition, under certain conditions, the higher the pretreatment temperature, the greater the acetic acid dosage, or the more the number of revolutions of PFI refining, the higher the total reducing sugar yield in the pretreatment and enzymatic hydrolysis conversion processes, and the higher the mass loss rate of the corresponding raw materials. Considering the economic cost savings and environmental protection factors comprehensively, the most suitable conditions for the pretreatment of Acacia were the temperature of 170 ℃, the volume fraction of acetic acid of 5%, and 5 000 revolutions of PFI refining.
