Abstract:In this research, the use of α-amylase aqueous solution for the safe removal of starch paste from archives, calligraphy and painting was explored, and the chloramine T aqueous solution was employed to deactivate any residual α-amylase in the archives and calligraphy and painting. The effects of these treatments on the physical properties and chemical structures of paper, as well as the color difference and glossiness of traditional Chinese painting pigments were evaluated. The results showed that when the mass fraction of α-amylase aqueous solution was 0.025%~0.200% and the treatment time was 10~20 min, the archives, calligraphy and painting could be uncovered flatly, and the paper surface was smooth, and the fibers had no obvious fracture. The chloramine T aqueous solution could effectively deactivate the residual α-amylase in paper, and the optimum mass fraction of chloramine T aqueous solution was 1.0% in the deactivating treatment of α-amylase. Moreover, 2 kinds of aqueous solution treatments had no significant effects on the tensile strength, folding endurance, tearing resistance, softness, whiteness, pH value, color difference and glossiness of the Chinese painting pigments.
