| Abstract:Wood basic density, fiber morphologies, and pulping and papermaking properties of 5 to 15 years old Mytilaria laosensis, Albizia odoratissima, and Castanopsis fissa as well as a control of 7-year-old Eucalyptus grandis × E. urophylla were investigated, to comprehensively evaluate the applicability of these raw materials for the pulping and papermaking. The results showed that under the evaluation of physical properties of the paper according to coordinate integrative assessment method, scores for the three tree species (0.59~19.91) were smaller than that of the control of Eucalyptus (21.25), and all of them were superior raw materials for the pulping and papermaking. Compared with different tree species, the fiber length (1.53~1.70 mm) of Mytilaria laosensis was larger, but the overall strength indices of the paper showed no significant advantages. The wood basic density (0.442~0.586 g/cm3) of the Albizia odoratissima, residual alkali content (10.0~13.8 g/L) and Kappa value (18.0~21.4) of pulp from it were higher. The viscosity (1 066~1 237 mL/g) of pulp from Castanopsis fissa was higher, and the overall strength indices of the paper were superior. As for a comparison among groups with different tree ages, the pulping and papermaking properties of 5-year-old and 12-year-old Mytilaria laosensis, 6-year-old Albizia odoratissima, and 6 to 13 years old Castanopsis fissa were better, while the overall indices strength of papers of 13-year-old Mytilaria laosensis, 10-year-old Albizia odoratissima, and 15-year-old Castanopsis fissa were lower, indicating that the three species of fast-growing broad-leaved trees were suitable for cultivating short-rotation pulp forests. |
