Teaching Reform of Polymer Chemistry for Light Chemical Engineering Specialty under the Background of Engineering Education Accreditation

Abstract:The core courses for light chemical engineering specialty, particularly for pulping and papermaking engineering as well as leather chemical engineering, involved with the natural polymers including cellulose and collagen. Besides, the polymeric additives are widely used in the process of pulping and papermaking, leather tanning as well as their post-processing. Therefore, the course of Polymer Chemistry has developed as a basic course for the major of light chemical engineering. To solve the problems existed in the teaching of Polymer Chemistry under the background of engineering education accreditation, such as the unappealing teaching design for students, the insufficient review of the basic chemical knowledge during teaching process, and none specific requirements for comprehensive ability in the examination, the teaching reform was thus performed to achieve the teaching goals of the course. Furthermore, the results of the teaching reform were also discussed to visualize the direction of the follow-up efforts.
