Abstract:This study investigated the performance of carbon paper for proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) prepared with nanocellulose as a modifier of phenolic resin and pore-forming agent. The effects of nanocellulose addition amount on the electrical resistivity, permeability, and mechanical strength of carbon paper were explored, and the performance of cell prepared by modified carbon paper was tested. The results showed that compared with unmodified carbon paper, the electrical resistivity of the modified carbon paper with nanocellulose addition amount of 0.2 g was reduced by 26.35%. The peak power density of it prepared PEMFCs of 325 mW/cm2, increased by 81.56%. Nanocellulose modified phenolic resin obviously improved the overall performance of carbon paper and fuel cell.
