Abstract:Cellulose nanocrystals (CNC) are nanofibers extracted from natural fibers. It not only has the characteristics of nanoparticles, but also shows the advantages of renewability, biodegradability, and biocompatibility. Colloidal stable CNC particles have a tendency to self-assemble into cholesteric liquid crystals in water, which can be modified according to their periodicity, structure, and morphology, therefore the CNC has been widely studied and has broad application prospects. CNC can form an iridescent film with chiral nematic liquid crystal phase by evaporation-induced self-assembly (EISA). The chiral nematic liquid crystal behavior, environmental response, and application of CNC in electronic, medical and food industries were reviewed in this paper. The futural research highlights and development of CNC-based chiral nematic materials were proposed as well, which in order to provide reference for the future application of chiral materials. |
