Abstract:This study focused on the characterization of four three-year-old bamboo species, namely dendrocalamus gracilisdendrocalamus macrophylladendrocalamus minor, and indosasa angustata, respectively. The micro structure, fiber morphology, chemical composition, pulp, and paper properties of these bamboo species were evaluated to assess their potential application as filter materials. The results showed that four bamboo species had an average fiber length exceeding 2 mm. The content of holocellulose, lignin, and ash were 65%~73%, 18%~26%, and 1%~3%, respectively. The yield of fine pulp obtained through sulfite cooking was 30%~41%. Compared with commercial softwood kraft pulp filter materials, bamboo pulp filter materials exhibited higher bulk and stiffness. Based on evaluations of paper bulk, pore size, air permeability, filtration efficiency, filtration resistance, and quality factors, the filter performance of indosasa angustata was found to be favorable, with a quality factor of 5.66, surpassing the commercial softwood kraft pulp sample.
