Abstract:Lignin as a renewable natural resource, has a variety of high value-added functional properties, and the combination of lignin with biodegradable polymers is one of the important ways for its conversion and utilization. However, the heterogeneity of lignin restricted its development and utilization in composites, it was of significance to adopt tailored strategies and methods to produce high value-added lignin-based biodegradable composites. The different fabrication strategies of high-performance lignin/poly-(butylene adipate-co-tere phthalate)(PBAT) composites were mainly described in this paper, such as adding compatibilizers, solvent fractionation, micro-nano crystallization and chemical modification of lignin, etc. The potential applications of the composites in UV shielding, water vapor/oxidation barrier and antibacterial and so on were further summarized. The challenge and future development direction of lignin/PBAT composites were summarized and prospected.
