Abstract:Chitosan, as a natural cationic polysaccharide, can be able to build multifunctional hydrogels by intermolecular interactions due to the large number of amino and hydroxyl groups on its chains. Chitosan-based wound dressings are widely used in clinical practice because of their ability to protect wounds and promote their healing. The properties of chitosan and its derivatives were reviewed in this paper, including antibacterial, biocompatibility, wound adhesion, and antioxidant properties. The development trend of chitosan hydrogel wound dressing was analyzed, and its potential for future development was prospected.
