Abstract:This paper summarized the technical status and research progress of wet strength agents for papermaking, and divided wet strength agents into industrial wet strength agents, other wet strength agents and wet strengthening systems according to the degree of industrialization and application. Among them, the synthesis, application, advantages, and disadvantages of industrial wet strength agents such as polyethyleneimine (PEI), urea-formaldehyde resin (UF), melamine formaldehyde resin (MF), polyamide polyamine epichlorohydrin resin (PAE),and dialdehyde starch (DAS) were discussed. The research status of polycarboxylic acid, chitosan, sodium alginate wet strength agent, and multi-moisture enhancement system in the field of wet-end papermaking was introduced, and their future development trends were prospected.
