Abstract:Lignin has a wide range of applications in many fields such as chemical processes, biopharmaceuticals, and nano-biotechnology, etc. However, due to the complex polymer structure of lignin, the utilization process of ligin is immature and currently used as low-value fuel. The way to efficiently use lignin has become a hot topic of research and discussion. The reduction and depolymerization was one of the most commonly used methods for the utilization of polymers. In this paper, the depolymerization methods and products of lignin were reviewed from various aspects, such as hydrogen reduction and depolymerization of lignin, reduction and depolymerisation of hydrogen-supplying reagents, and other reduction and depolymerization methods. And the prospects for the development of reduction and depolymerization of lignin were envisioned.
