Abstract:This study utilized meta-aramid spinning stock (MASS) solution, which was homologous to meta-aramid paper, to coat and enhance the aramid paper. The results showed that the MASS solution caused fiber swelling, resulting in increased dimensions and significantly improved the interfacial bonding between fibers, reducing paper porosity, and promoting densification of the aramid paper. Additionally, the MASS solution formed a dense protective film on the surface of the paper, greatly enhancing the mechanical and insulation properties of the aramid paper. Compared to the original aramid paper, the tensile strength, modulus, internal bonding strength, and tear index of the enhanced aramid paper were improved by 0.8, 0.6, 1.7, and 0.9 times, respectively. The breakdown strength of the enhanced aramid paper increased by 1.9 times compared to the original aramid paper, reaching 26.5 kV/mm.
