Abstract:A solid sizing agent was used to replace native starch partially for surface sizing of corrugated base paper. A variety of test metods were adopted to investigate the effect of the solid sizing agent dosage on the hydrophobicity and structure properties of the corrugated base paper, such as Cobb60 value, water droplet disappearance time, dynamic contact angle, morphology of paper, surface roughness, air permeability, and average aperture. The results showed that as the solid sizing agent dosage increased from 0 to 40%, the comprehensive sizing effect continued to improve, as indicated by resistance to liquid water wetting and penetration enhancement, surface roughness reduction, and porosity decrease. However, continued increase in the solid sizing agent dosage would resulted in adverse effects. The solid sizing agent and starch could form a complex with lower surface energy, ficilitating to form a denser paper structure and smoother surface sizing layer. |
