Effect of Cationic Sesbania Gum Dyeing Assistance on Pulp Fiber Dyeing

Abstract:To achieve salt-free dyeing, this study introduced cationic sesbania gum as a dyeing assistance to improve the in-pulp dyeing effect by enhancing the adsorption between the dye and pulp fibers. The results showed that cationic sesbania gum was effective as a dyeing assistance for GL dye. Optical microscopy and SEM showed that the GL dye, pulp fibers, and cationic sesbania gum were tightly bound. The effect of pH value, temperature, and cationic sesbania gum dosage on the dyeing effect of pulp fibers was investigated by single-factor experiments, and the optimal dyeing conditions were determined as follows: cationic sesbania gum dosage 0.2%, pH value of dyeing solution 3, dyeing temperature 45 ℃, and the dye uptake reached 92.6% under this condition. The dyeing adsorption kinetic model and dyeing adsorption isotherm were established, showing that the dyeing time had negligible effect on dyeing effect, which could be effectively improved by appropriately increasing the initial concentration of dyeing solution.
