Abstract:The chemical composition and fiber morphology of 6 kinds of fast-growing pinus elliottii×p. caribaea with different ages from 4 to 14 years were studied, and their kraft pulping properties at same cooking conditions were evaluated. The results showed that the holo-cellulose content of pinus elliottii×p. caribaea gradually increased with the increasing of tree ages, and was stabilized at (74±3)% with tree age more than 10 years. Lignin content increased slightly in the early growth stage of the trees, whereas decreased after tree age more than 8 years. In addition, the phenyl ethanol extraction content among the few components increased rapidly after tree age more than 10 years, whereas other components content changed irregularly. The average fiber length of pinus elliottii×p. caribaea wood was 2~3 mm, and the draw ratio was more than 58, which gradually increased with the increase of tree ages. Meanwhile, the pulp from pinus elliottii×p. caribaea with a tree age more than 10 years had a lower kappa value and a higher viscosity, which were more economic efficient to pulping and paper making.
