Abstract:Adding vapor grown carbon fiber (VGCF) into the carbon paper for fuel cell was innovatively proposed in this study. The influence of different methods of VGCF on the dispersion effect in the original carbon paper was studied. The physical properties, air permeability, conductivity and the graphitization degree of carbon paper with different VGCF addition amounts were also investigated. The results showed that the addition of effectively dispersed VGCF with anhydrous ethanol and dispersant into original carbon paper could increase the strength to a certain extent and improve the conductivity effectively, whereas reduced the air permeability. When the amount of VGCF was 4%, compared with the physical performence of carbon paper without VGCF, the tensile strength increased by 11.58%, the horizontal resistance decreased by 30.31%, the air permeability decreased by 11.27%, and the graphitization increased by 20.39%.
