Abstract:A cross-linked polyvinyl alcohol surface sizing agent (PVA-KH560) was prepared by grafting and modifying polyvinyl alcohol (PVA1799) using γ-glycidyl ether oxypropyltrimethoxysilane (KH560).The structure and stability of PVA-KH560 were analyzed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, hydrogen nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, and stability tests, and the physical properties of papers before and after sizing by the compound agent of PVA-KH560 and PVA1799 were compared. The results showed that the epoxy group of KH560 disappeared in PVA-KH560, and the silicon-containing branch chain was successfully grafted into the PVA1799 long chain. When m (PVA1799)∶m (KH560) was 9∶1.5, the PVA-KH560 dispersion was stable and had the smallest particle size (122.2 nm), and the PDI index was 0.291. Compared with the base paper, the folding endurance, tensile index, stiffness, tearing index, and bursting index, and contact angle of the compound-agent sized paper increased by 436.0%, 60.1%, 116.4%, 89.9%, 80.5%, and 57.7%, respectively, showing an improved comprehensive performance compared with the PVA1799 sized paper. |
